Your Home Maintenance Checklist: When to Hire Professionals

Hannibal, the Carthaginian general from ancient times once said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” It can feel a bit like this with home maintenance, given the multitude of tasks you may have to deal with.
Yet, we all know that the small things count towards the bigger picture, and this is how you have to see home maintenance. If you can manage the little tasks every month and seasonally, you should be able to maintain or even improve your home’s value.
So now we’ll provide you with a quick home maintenance checklist to refer to. We’ll first start with any monthly considerations. Then we’ll touch upon any seasonal tasks you might need to carry out.
Monthly Home Maintenance Tasks
A good place to start with DIY home maintenance is to know which tasks you need to complete every month. The tasks we’re going to layout should be quick and easy to carry out.
You may not need to do everything we mention here. But, jot down the things you need to do, and then add any of your ideas to the list too.
Replace and Clean HVAC Filters
Nearly everyone in the US has some form of HVAC. Every month you should at the very least clean yours.
If you want to keep your HVAC running at its best, you should consider replacing your filters once every one to three months. The whole point is to improve the longevity of your HVAC and maintain good air quality in your home.
Water-Related Tasks
If you live in a hard water region, you should check your brine tank at least once every month to see if it’s fifty percent full. The last thing you want is a build-up of minerals causing you issues.
You should also think about descaling your showerheads and faucets once a month to get rid of grime that’s built up. Then, make sure to check all your drains and unclog if necessary.
Other Considerations
It’s important to test all your alarms each month for safety reasons. Also, make sure all the electrical cords in your home are safe and not faulty.
Then, last of all, make sure you give your garbage disposal a thorough clean at least once a month, if not every two weeks.
Seasonal Considerations
Many seasonal tasks may concern your home exterior. These can include things like:
- Cleaning your home exterior
- Gutter maintenance
- Yard and lawn maintenance
- Winterizing your pipes
We’d like to stress that gutter maintenance should be a must for you once a year at a minimum to prevent roof water damage. Here is some affordable gutter cleaning, if you’re interested.
