Assuming you don’t have a dedicated home office, setting up an ergonomic workstation can be challenging. Here are some tips for setting one up.

Chair

It should be comfortable, support the lower back, and adjustable so that your legs and knees are at a 90-degree angle when sitting.

Adjust your chair so that your feet are flat on the floor. If you can’t do this, use a footrest.

If your chair has armrests, ensure they are at the proper height so that your elbows are also at a 90-degree angle. The arms should be able to rest comfortably at the sides.

Lamp

One important thing is to have a good lamp to provide adequate lighting. LED bulbs are a good option because they don’t get as hot as other bulbs and emit little to no UV light. Placing the lamp on your desk so the light shines directly on your work is the best way to reduce eye strain.

Storage

Install shelves or drawers to create more storage space for your office supplies. Be sure to declutter regularly to maintain a clean and organized space.

Table or Desk

The best way to start is by clearing off a flat surface where you can set up your laptop, monitor, and keyboard. You’ll want to ensure your device is at the correct height, so you’re looking straight ahead at the screen, not down at it. If you don’t have a laptop stand, you can use books or boxes to prop it up.

Next, adjust your monitor so that the top of the screen is at eye level. If you use a laptop, invest in a separate keyboard and mouse to have the screen at the proper height.

Finally, focus on your keyboard and mouse. You’ll want these to be at the correct height so that your wrists are in a neutral position. If your keyboard has a number pad, you may need to angle it away from you to keep your mouse within comfortable reach. Ensure your keyboard and mouse are within easy reach so you’re not straining your arms to use them.
