How To Replace a Key On A Laptop?

How To Replace a Key On A Laptop

For most modern laptops, replacing a key is not a problem. Such a need may arise if liquid is spilled on the keyboard or the button is out of order. First of all, you need to understand what the key consists of.

This is, as a rule, an elevator (or a mechanism by which it is held), a spring, a metal platform. To replace a failed button, you will need a flat tool with which you can pry the button. A regular screwdriver will do.

How To Replace a Key On A Laptop?

First of all, you need to remove the key from the elevator. It should be noted that there are cases when a damaged button on a laptop can only be replaced by removing the keyboard from the case (for example, when replacing a film or elevators). Almost all laptop models have special latches with which the keyboard is attached to the case. Usually there are 4 of them. That is, to remove the keyboard, you must sequentially disconnect each latch. You can also find laptops in which you need to remove the top panel of the case to replace the keys.

For computers with latches, the first step is to pry off the first latch with a screwdriver (it is located in the upper left corner). Then, the edge of the keyboard is raised. At the same time, it is necessary to disconnect the second latch (approximately in the middle of the keyboard). After these operations, the keyboard can be held by hand while opening the following locks. It is attached to the body with a cable, which can be easily detached. After that, you can replace the damaged button.

However, in most cases, it is possible to replace a damaged button without removing the keyboard, for example, by replacing the elevator. It attaches to the base of the keyboard with 4 latches. It must be removed as follows:

  • Insert a screwdriver into the space between the two latches
  • With a little effort, snap off locks 1 and 2
  • After, you should lift the button and snap off the rest

If it turned out that the button remained on the elevator, then it is necessary, first of all, to remove the elevator. Then, it is installed on the keyboard, and only then the button is attached. To install the lift back, the first 2 locks of the lift must be engaged. They should snap into place (characteristic click). Only after that, 2 other locks are attached.

It is noteworthy that the easiest thing to do is to install the replaced button on the elevator. However, it is important to remember 2 points:

  • the button must be placed in such a way that it will always be located, that is, not higher and not lower than its usual position;
  • button latching must be done from the bottom up. Simply put, first of all, the lower locks are attached, then the upper ones.

However, these rules apply to replacing a regular key. In addition to them, there are buttons that have a stiffness booster (this applies to space, shift). To replace them, you need to perform 3 steps:

  1. Installing the key amplifiers in the corresponding slots located on the computer case.
  2. With a slight movement, you need to connect the lower part of the button with the elevator.
  3. After a characteristic click, press the button to the upper mount of the elevator.

In conclusion, it should be noted that in order to replace a key in a laptop, in each case, an individual approach will be required. This may be due to the fact that, despite the apparent uniformity of all models, they have significant differences in the method of fastening and, as a result, replacing a failed key. In any case, if there is no complete confidence in a successful outcome, you can use the services of professional computer masters.[]=<a+href=[]=<a+href=[email protected]&link=https://wigily.com
