If you’ve tried to go green by using cloth face masks, rather than the propylene ones, then good for you! But did you know that cloth face masks need to be washed daily? That’s what the CDC recommends.

Unsure about how to wash your cloth face mask and put safety first? Check out some tips below to properly wash and dry your reusable face mask.

No Need To Separate Masks From Regular Laundry

If you were thinking that you need to wash your cloth face mask separately from regular laundry, you are mistaken. There’s no need for that. It’s a waste of laundry detergent, water, and energy.

Toss your reusable face mask into the washer, as soon as you return home after a long day. It’s as easy as that!

Use Regular Soap and Water

Some people believe that you need to have some special anti-bacterial soap or detergent to wash a cloth face mask, but that’s completely unnecessary. In fact, that’s definitely overdoing it.

Regular soap or detergent with water is more than enough.

Completely Dry Before Use

Wet face masks are more likely to fester bacteria and viruses. Thus, ensure your cloth face mask is completely dry before putting them on your face. Ideally, you would want to dry your reusable face mask in direct sunlight.

Hot Water Isn’t a Necessity

The coronavirus is easily broken down with soap and water. The water can be cold or hot. That doesn’t matter.

You don’t need to waste precious resources and energy to use hot water to wash your hands or cloth face mask. Regular cold or lukewarm water will do.

Handwash Your Face Mask

If you are worried that you won’t be able to do a good enough job of washing your cloth face mask by hand, you don’t need to worry, especially if you only have two masks that you rotate through during the week.

Handwashing your masks may be a necessity, and is easier than you realize. Use regular soap and water to wash your mask, and as always, dry completely before using it again. It’s as easy as that!
