5 Common Dental Problems That Can Happen to Anyone

Going to the dentist might not be everyone’s favorite doctor visit, but it’s incredibly important for our health and overall well-being. Many different dental problems will bring someone to the dental office.
Going to the dentist for a yearly cleaning is vital. But there are plenty of other dental issues that will cause people to visit a dental office outside of their cleaning schedule. Many of these tooth problems are quite common.
Read on to find out five of the most common dental problems.
1) A Chipped Tooth
A chipped tooth is a bothersome tooth problem that can be brought on from biting into an un-popped popcorn kernel or from falling on your face. A badly chipped tooth can cause sensitivity at the tip and may need to have work done to fix it.
A patient may also want to cosmetically fix the chipped tooth. Whatever the reason, a chipped tooth is a common reason why people need to visit the dentist.

2) Receding and Sensitive Gums
Overbrushing or not brushing properly can cause receding gums, and in some people, this can create uncomfortable sensitivity in the gum and tooth area. This may leave people unable to drink very cold or hot beverages.
People may visit the dentist to get a temporary covering on the exposed and sensitive part of the gums and this will help them in their day-to-day lives until the sensitivity recovers on its own.
3) Cavities
Getting a cavity is not just for children, anyone of any age can get a cavity. A cavity is generally an easy procedure and is done quite quickly in a dental office.
To avoid getting cavities, it’s important to brush your teeth before bed especially after having a sweet treat.
4) Cosmetic Procedures
Probably one of the most common reasons people visit a dentist outside of the cleaning schedule is for cosmetic reasons. There are all sorts of dental cosmetic procedures available.
One of the most well-known procedures is braces. But more and more often, people are opting for Invisalign, as it is less noticeable and more comfortable for the patient. Invisalign is very powerful at straightening teeth and can even fix a rotated tooth.
Another popular cosmetic procedure is teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is not permanent and needs to be repeated on nearly an annual basis.
5) Bad Breath
People visit the dental office often to fix an embarrassing yet common problem: bad breath. Referred to as halitosis, bad breath is usually caused by poor mouth hygiene but it may also be caused by gingivitis or oral cancer.
Because there are so many causes of bad breath, it’s always a good idea to get the reason behind bad breath checked out by a professional.
