5 Common Causes of Foot Pain

Did you know that each foot is made of 26 bones, 30 joints, and over 100 muscles?
This can make it extremely difficult to diagnose the exact spot foot pain is coming from. So how can you retain your mobility and remedy the issue?
Luckily, most problems are down to a limited number of issues. Read on as we discuss the main causes of foot pain.
1. Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis is an inflammation of the tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes.
It will cause problems at the heel and along the bridge of the foot. You will find that the arch aches when you wake in the morning.
For foot pain treatment of this nature, you need to rest. Get shoes with great arch support, particularly if you have been running. Do some mild stretches and take over-the-counter pain relief to bring the inflammation down.
2. Metatarsalgia
This problem is often referred to as a stone bruise. It is characterized by pain in the ball of the foot. Common causes are shoes that do not fit correctly or strain from running and jumping.
To manage pain, start by checking your shoes. If they are not the right size change them, or add shoe inserts for support in ones you do have. Rest your foot, apply ice and take over-the-counter pain relief.
3. Bunion
A bunion causes pain in and along the big toe. It comes from a misalignment of the joint. You can identify them by the large, bony bulge they form.
While they are a symptom that commonly occurs with age, anyone can get them. They occur from wearing shoes that are badly fitted. It can be corrected by changing to more comfortable footwear or in some cases, orthopedic surgery.
Many people who have bunions also have hammertoes. These are a bend in the middle joint of other toes. It is a result of a muscle imbalance and should be treated the same way as a bunion.
4. Corns
Corns are a build-up of hard skin. They can look like a horn on the foot or toe that produces a sore pressure point. This build-up of skin accumulates through day-to-day walking and movement.
Luckily, treatment and pain management can take place at home. Soak them and use a pumice stone to remove the skin.
5. Arthritis
Three forms of arthritis may impact the foot: Rheumatoid, Osteo, and Psoriatic.
Rheumatoid is an autoimmune disease that causes swelling in the joints. Osteoarthritis is a result of cartilage in the joints wearing out.
Psoriatic is a mix of skin inflammation and joint inflammation. It feels like stiffness or throbbing in the tendons. All of these will require the assistance of a doctor to treat correctly.
